Long Dead Grass
04:38
|
|||
I left the comfort of the highlands to live on a grey sullen street
next to the cattails and long dead grass i wait for the darkness to creep
to wrap its soft blanket round me
and in the morning when the bunnies sleep and birds sing nestled in their shade
I'm grasping the last strands of my dreams, which along with the dew they shall fade
by dawn there's no sign of their graves
and when the geese leave I shall ride their backs, escape this cold place in the winter
but this weather it does pervade me and the sun doesn't shine in my soul
no the sun never shines in my soul

Dirt Nap
04:26
|
|||
there will be a day when all your problems go away
when your lonely magpie finds a friend
when the sharp light will pul and then you can rest your eyes in the soft heat of summer
i know they put dams in your river the white fish can't get through
the sparrow has not come to greet you yet don't force it to arrive
days go by as the tick tock of your electric clock is swallowed by the winter of your soul
and as hard as you try to be happy about your job you just can't force a smile
come a day when fields of butterflies will dance inside your eyes
if you can't reach then you can paint your nails the colour of the sky
and when you go to sleep i know dreams sneak into your room and hang you from rope twisted with old memories from your past
and you look for a way to forge yourself into a place where nothing seems to matter
i know sometimes it's harder to not make yourself a boat with holes inside and sleep until it sinks
but there will be a day where you can lay in the dirt forever like when you were a kid

Always on my Mind*
03:34
|
|||
i have a polaroid of you standing in a field of rye
that day you must have swallowed the sun cause you shined
in morning i'd bring you to school, you'd run through the crayon fence
carry me with the wings of a child, and sleep upon a star
you're always on my mind, all of the time
all your clothes in boxes and left outside a goodwill
i kept one of you're raggedy dolls, it strokes my hair at night
you're always on my mind all of the time

The Grey*
04:06
|
|||
she used to walk at the first sight of dawn
and run her fingers along the chain link fenced
but now she sleeps and barely wants to rise most of the time
now she never wants to see the sun
keeps all the shades closed until the day is done
her bed hasn't been made in quite a while
you feel it when her body's near,
but never even see her when she's there
she used to climb the old grey apple tree,
and pick the sweetest ones for us to eat
she doesn't sit beside the ashford creek next to the school
i can't say when she disappeared
she must have faded slowly through they eyes
there used to be a time when she would rise with a gentle sparkle in her eyes
until the day she stared into the grey and it went away

Trashmen*
04:53
|
|||
the weeds and grass have been flattened by the snow
the old grey fence barely stands
and part of it is flat on the ground like it's wasted
the bones of the shrubbery weep and they wilt since the sun disappeared
the buildings look like they're just ghosts of themselves dying to fade straight into the fog that travels towards the street from the river
i wish i could walk towards the fog til my body is weightless and clear
the sky was always grey, the trees never lvied
they've all been dead since time was a kid
this town was built for the lost and the hopeless
a home for the grey empty souls and sometimes i wish i wasn't here
but it's fine
i walk with burdened thoughts that desert me
the alleyways are filled with trash from the street
the dumptruck comes to take it on mondays
i shoudl put myself in a bag and i'll wait til the trashmen are here
a lonely bouy floats as the river flows,
patches of ice drift downstream toward their destitute with my hopes of getting better,
i'll have to lurch out my door and just hope that the clouds disappear

Dead Eyes
02:42
|
|||
Crawled out her coffin
without a care
inside the garden
let fall her hair
under the old oak tree
kisses the honey bees
captures the dark and rides
dead eyes
Vast in the wastelands
a tangle of stars
she dances in moonlight
by the rusty cars
Spills of a dragons rot
tremors beneath the yard
of decaying butterflies
dead eyes

Sunflower Eye
01:43
|
|||
When I found you puking flowers on the sidewalk by the alley
I took the soil out of my pocket and made a pillow for your head
Now you've got a sunflower eye
and cry tears of nectar that attract butterflies
I wish I could keep the bumblebees from you
if only my soul was sweet honey
I'd open it up and I'd let them in
and set them ablaze until I'm just a head
and can you roll me?
Please just roll me down that hill

The Pony Ride
03:31
|
|||
When I get depressed I look in my pocket to see if I have a quarter or two
then I go to the market and I ride the kiddie rides
I like the ponies and sometimes the dolphins
I like the trains but I'm too big for them now
Then I get a diet coke and sandwich from the store and that will do it for me
uh huh
When I get depressed I eat some candy then I get a hostess sno ball from the fridge
then I watch all of the shows that were on when I was a kid
and I have a picture of a snowy mountain
Collectible toy cars and some model boats
stuffed ponies and pillows and pony figurines
to ride into the edge of my dreams
uh huh
I'm gonna ride that Pony. Gonna ride that Pony home.

Summer Cigs
03:04
|
|||
summertime ciggyarettes
waste my day on my epitaph i miss you to death
useless you, meanininglesss me wasted waste she shamed her sheets with the waste of me
and i could never clear my lungs of all the times we laughed
the sea will carry us on waves of wounded dreams,
and return us decorated with glass made by the sea
and the sun wil scorch us til our skin peels like dried glue out of our hands
(with wounds opened by the rocks and the sea glass on the beach)
somber sun harnessed hill puke your words speak your filth we are bound until
we can follow maps without losing ourselves and
ravished we are when the sun he smiles sparkles through the day
ravished we are when it straps us with its rays and
ravished we are when we are forced to swallow the cum of the day
winter time cigarettes waste my day laying in the snow till i freeze to death
summer, (glass, bleed
